Identification Service

How to Send

Material must be packed securely in a crush-proof box, despatched by first class post, and not sent over a weekend. Wrap the specimen(s) separately and loosely in kitchen towel but do not use any plastic as this may make the fungus 'sweat' in transit. Identification of the material will be made as quickly as possibly, generally by return, though at busy times it may take a few days.

The Trust runs an identification service that is free to members and is available to the public in limited extent.

Many identifications can be made with reasonable certainty from photographic images emailed to us, providing that they show all the main features of the specimen, on top and underneath. Others that are more difficult to determine may have to be sent in for closer examination.
